If your Windows computer is running in S Mode, you can only install apps from the Microsoft Store — which means apps like Trend Micro Security won't install until you switch out. Don't worry — switching is free and only takes a few minutes.
Switch Out of S Mode on Windows 10
- Click the Start button, then go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
- Look for the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, then click Go to the Store.
- On the Switch out of S mode page in the Microsoft Store, click the Get button.
- Once the process completes, you're all set! You can now install apps from outside the Microsoft Store, including Trend Micro Security.
Switch Out of S Mode on Windows 11
- Click the Start button, then go to Settings > System > Activation.
- Look for the Switch to Windows 11 Home or Switch to Windows 11 Pro section, then click Go to the Store.
- On the Switch out of S mode page in the Microsoft Store, click the Get button.
- Once the process completes, you're all set! You can now install apps from outside the Microsoft Store.
🔔 Important: You may also see an Upgrade your edition of Windows section on the Activation page. Do not click the "Go to the Store" link in that section — it's for a paid Windows upgrade, not for switching out of S Mode.
Troubleshooting
- If the Microsoft Store does not open or gets stuck loading, make sure you have a stable internet connection and try restarting your computer.
- If the Get button is greyed out, verify that you are signed into your Microsoft account on the computer. Go to Settings > Accounts to check.
- If you don't see the Switch to Windows Home/Pro section, your computer may not be in S Mode. Go to Settings > System > About and check the Windows specifications section for "in S mode."
- If the issue continues, contact Trend Micro Support for help.
