Learning Buddy is Kaleida's mode for children under 18. Instead of simply giving answers, Kaleida responds to your child's questions in a way that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving, tailored to their age. As a parent or guardian, you'll receive a weekly summary of your child's engagement.
Before You Begin
- You must be the plan owner (parent or legal guardian) to set this up.
- Your child needs their own email address and a smartphone — this is required to create their account.
- Learning Buddy is available for children under 18. Children under 8 cannot be added to a family.
Step 1: Invite Your Child to the Family
-
In the TrendLife App, tap the icon in the top-right corner, or simply ask Kaleida — for example, “I want to invite a family member.”
-
Enter your child's information and email address.
-
Give your consent as the parent or legal guardian when prompted. You'll be shown what data is collected about your child and how it's used — tap “I consent” to continue.
-
Share the app download link or QR code with your child directly.
Note: Invitations aren't sent by email — you need to share the download link or QR code with your child yourself. Also, don't use the link generated inside the TrendLife App; use the official download link from the beta program page.
Step 2: Have Your Child Sign In
- Your child installs the TrendLife App using the link or QR code you shared.
- They sign in using the exact email address you entered on the invitation.
- Remind them not to use “Sign in with Apple,” which can prevent their account from linking correctly.
Note: The email must match exactly — family invitations are case-sensitive, so if sign-in fails, double-check the capitalization.
How Learning Buddy Adapts to Your Child's Age
Kaleida automatically adjusts how it phrases prompts and guidance based on your child's age band:
| Age Band | How Kaleida Responds |
|---|---|
| 8–11 | Concrete, directive prompts |
| 12–13 | Transitional prompt wording |
| 14–17 | Abstract, metacognitive prompts |
What You'll Receive as a Parent
- A weekly summary of your child's general engagement with Kaleida, focused on learning habits and progress — not raw chat transcripts.
- You can also ask Kaleida directly about your child's use of the app at any time.
Good to Know
- Children aged 8–12 can't have Kaleida perform automated actions (like Google Calendar scheduling) on their behalf.
- Your child's personal identifiers — name, email, phone number, birthdate, and similar — are masked before their conversations are processed by the AI.
- Learning Buddy content is meant only for members under 18. If you see a weekly report for an adult family member, that's a known issue — report it rather than treating it as expected.
